BIOGRAPHY

1939Born in Pakruojis, Lithuania, to Ona and Vladas Kunčius. His father was organist in the churches of Pakruojis and Klovainiai.
1946 – 1957Lived in Kaunas.
1958 – 1963Studied law and music in Vilnius.
1963Decided to be a photographer and started participating in exhibitions.
1963 – 1997Worked as a photographer for the cultural press (Literatūra ir menas and Kultūros barai) and collected an archive of portraits of the cultural elite.
1969Together with others, founded the Lithuanian Art Photographers Society.
1977Had his first solo exhibition.
1979 – 1984Filmed with a 16 mm camera and collected a unique film archive.
1997 – 2002Was head of the Photographic Art Department at the Lithuanian Art Museum.
1998Won the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Award.
1999Honorary member of the Lithuanian Art Photographers Union.
